The Zavvi Group notice of intention to appoint administrators was filed on Friday, 11 September 2026, as its directors began discussions with creditors.
The notice provides the company with temporary protection from creditor action while the directors consider their options.
This does not mean that Zavvi Group is currently in administration or that administrators have been appointed. The company could still secure additional funding, reach an agreement with its creditors, arrange a sale or proceed into administration.
Who Is Zavvi Group?
Zavvi Group is an online retailer specialising in pop culture merchandise and collectables. Its product range includes clothing, figures, trading cards, films and officially licensed merchandise connected with brands such as Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Pokémon.
The Winsford-based business operates several retail brands, including:
- Zavvi
- I Want One of Those
- Pop in a Box
- Akedo
- Claireabella
The group also designs, manufactures and fulfils licensed and own-brand products for other retailers from its Winsford operation.
The History of Zavvi
The Zavvi name was originally associated with the high street entertainment retailer created following a management buyout of Virgin Megastores in 2007.
That original Zavvi business entered administration on Christmas Eve 2008. Its remaining stores subsequently closed, and the online Zavvi brand was acquired by The Hut Group, now known as THG, in 2009.
THG developed Zavvi as an online retail business before selling its OnDemand division, which included Zavvi and several associated brands, to its management team in 2023. The acquisition was financially supported by restructuring and investment firm Gordon Brothers.
The current operating company, Zavvigroup Ltd, was incorporated in May 2023 and is registered at Avengers Towers, Winsford Industrial Estate, Cheshire.
Recent Financial Results
In its accounts covering the five months ending 31 March 2025, Zavvi Group reported revenue of approximately £10 million. This represented reported growth of 22% against the comparable period, but the company recorded a pre-tax loss of £495,000.
The previous accounts, covering the 18 months ending 31 October 2024, showed revenue of £21.9 million and a pre-tax loss of approximately £1.9 million.
A refinancing agreement with HSBC was completed in April 2025, and the company had forecast full-year revenue of £25 million.
In 2025, Zavvi Group also raised £86,768 from 286 investors through the Crowdcube crowdfunding platform.
What Does the Zavvi Group Notice of Intention Mean?
The notice creates a temporary moratorium protecting the company from most creditor enforcement action.
During this period, creditors are generally prevented from:
- Presenting or continuing a winding-up petition.
- Commencing or continuing legal proceedings.
- Enforcing a judgment.
- Sending enforcement officers to seize company assets.
- Repossessing goods without the company’s agreement or permission from the court.
The protection gives the directors time to hold discussions with lenders and other creditors and to consider whether the business can be refinanced, sold or placed into administration.
The outcome of the Zavvi Group notice of intention will depend on whether the directors can secure funding, agree terms with creditors or arrange a sale of the business.
At the time of writing, Zavvigroup Ltd remains recorded as an active company at Companies House. No administrators have yet been appointed.
NPD Comment
There was more than enough financial information available to suggest that this company was experiencing serious financial difficulties.
Due diligence has never been more important, particularly when deciding whether to grant or continue providing credit.
What Can Creditors Do Now?
For unsecured creditors already owed money, there is now very little they can do other than establish the amount owed, ensure their claim is properly documented and wait for the next announcement.
If administrators are appointed, unsecured creditors will be required to submit details of their claims and await information from the administrators regarding the company’s financial position and whether any payment is likely to be made.
